I am currently writing a new introductory tutorial.
The old tutorial can be found here: chapter1.html
Instant Django can be used with the tutorial in the official documentation.

Download the self-extracting executable, then double-click to extract.
Place the resulting folder in a convenient location.
Double-click 'start.bat' to launch the command line interface.

Add Mercurial and Winmerge to the development environment.
Rewrite chapter 1, finish chapter 2, write chapter 3.
